Preparing Your “Pitch” for GSE 2022

What Shall I Say?
This is a basic 90 -150 - second (1.5-2.5 minutes) recording of why you want to attend, why you think it is important for West Virginia, and what you might contribute.  The length is not important.

Read below to see how to get it all together.

The camera - remember, this is an audition video, so you don't need to worry too much about the video quality, but you want it to be a good representation of your work. We suggest using a phone or tablet to record your audition, just to simplify the process. However, you can use a video camera or DSLR. If you use a phone or tablet, remember to hold it horizontally when you record.

Recording the video--have someone record your video for you. (Be sure to have them hold the camera/phone horizontally!). Now, find a quiet location, because we want to focus on just you! A quiet room in your home or school is perfectly fine.

Introduce yourself--Begin your video by introducing yourself, including the name of your high school and your current grade. Then work through the following questions. Some answers may be longer than others.

How did you hear about GSE?

Why are you interested in attending? What do you hope to take away from GSE?

Describe a product you have thought about inventing or an innovative/new business that you would like to see thrive in West Virginia.

Why would we need such an invention or new business?  Who'd be your market base?

If you don't have a solution in mind, what is a problem you'd like to have solved by students at the Governor's School of Entrepreneurship?

Students at GSE will work on teams. Tell us about your team experiences either at school or in your community.  Do you see yourself as a follower or a leader?

How would your friends describe you?

How do you see yourself?

Record your video as many times as you need to. When you are satisfied with your video, you are ready to send it to us!

Upload process—Upload to YouTube. If you don't already have an account, it's easy and free to create one. Just follow the prompts to do so. Keep in mind that if you have a Gmail account already, then you have a YouTube account associated with it. You can download the YouTube app to your smart phone or tablet, which will make uploading a cinch!

We suggest using a phone or tablet, just to simplify the process.
Using the YouTube app with a smart phone or tablet
1.      Open the app;
2.      Select the camera button and allow it access your library;
3.      Select the file you wish to upload;
4.      Name the file as "Your Name WVGSE Video" 2022
5.      Select "unlisted" as the privacy option, then hit the upload button to upload a file. Make sure you don't set your video to private, as we won't be able to view it!

Using YouTube if you use a camera or DSLR--If you recorded the video with a camera or DSLR, you'll need a computer to upload it. Navigate YouTube in your web browser from a computer, login, and select the upload option. Locate the file on your computer and upload it. Name the file as "Your Name WVGSE Video".  Remember to set the video as unlisted, not private.

Now you are ready to send it to us. Simply copy and paste your audition link in an email and send it to both cheryl.keffer@k12.wv.us and ray.lowther@k12.wv.us at the WVDE, but especially to olen.york@marshall.edu.

Put "Your Name WVGSA audition" in the subject line, and then send away! Be sure to submit your video by April 10, 2022.

Final check
Did you
·         Properly title your video and include the information in the description?
·         Set your video to "unlisted" and copy and paste the full URL into an email?
·         Compose the email with your name and "WVGSE 2022 VIDEO as the subject line?
Remember: The value is not in the fanciness of your video, but in your ideas and commitment.
We are so eager to hear from you.
