The most frequently asked question in January is usually, If I am selected, how soon will I know?
Students who are selected should receive a letter from Governor  Jim Justice  3-4 weeks after the final audition. Students not selected and those who are alternates will receive a letter from Mrs. Keffer.  The letters will be mailed at approximately the same time as the letters from the Governor.

How much does it cost to go to this wonderful program?
There is no cost to students or their families for tuition, room, meals, activities, books or instructional materials. The only expenses for which the students' families are responsible are health and accident insurance, personal expenses, and travel to and from auditions and the academy site. 

Speaking of money, how much spending money would I need?
The amount of money you'll need depends upon how big a spender you are.  If you have to order pizza every night or you have to buy a sweatshirt every time we go off campus, you'll need quite a lot.  On the other hand, if you are in the habit of watching your money, you'll need considerably less. Some students have come with $300 and called home for more.  Others have come with $75 and taken money home with them.

If I am selected to attend GSA, will I have to stay weekends? 
The GSA program requires that students be on campus and actively involved for the entire three weeks. You'll find, however, that you'll not feel that you "have to stay." Instead, you'll see they days go by so quickly that you won't believe that the final day occurs so quickly. 

Will I be able to go to church on Sunday? 
Unless the group is traveling, you will be able to attend church on Sunday morning. There is a chapel on campus that will appeal to many, but RAs will also be available accompany students whose faiths are not represented on campus. to specific churches. 

May I apply to more than one arts area? For example, dance and art?
Students must apply to one and only one arts discipline.  Students applying for instrumental music may, however, audition on two instruments.  Be careful, though. It's better to be outstanding one on that pretty good on two.

How soon can I submit my application? 
The submission deadline is December 2, but you can submit your application as soon as it is completed. Remember that the application has two parts: one to be sent electronically and one to be sent via the mail. You are responsible for submitting both parts. The first part says "GSA Application." The paper application, Part II, must be sent through traditional mail.   Incomplete applications or those sent after the deadline will not be considered. Remember to follow the directions about printing a copy of Part I and attaching it to Part II.

Will I receive feedback about my audition?

Feedback is limited to comments/suggestions the judge made during your audition. No one will receive feedback after auditions. The purpose of the GSA audition to select students to participate in GSA. It is not a rating event. 

Can I request a specific roommate? 
Of course you can, but the request won't be honored.  The GSA avoids placing students from the same geographical area or area of study in the same room. One of the purposes of GSA is to get to know new people and build community.
